At the Centre de Transfert des Microtechniques, CTM in Besançon, France, a micro-piezo-electric motor based on the principle of travelling waves is developed, at a diameter of 4mm. Due to its architecture and a mechanical amplification, this motor is also called butterfly motor.
The matter of investigation for the finite element (FE) analysis was the stator of two different designs of a piezoelectric motor employing the travelling wave principle. For this sake the software package ATILA by CEDRAT-Recherche has been used. In particular, the harmonic analysis feature was employed in order to find the values for certain eigen frequencies, maximal displacements and the respective quality factors.
